Will you be the Hero of your own story?
Do you fear balloons bursting infront of you, dancing infront of strangers, stepping onto unexplored grounds and leading a team? I do.
However, after joining NDP this year, I have no choice but to break out of my comfort zone. Reason being, since I have taken this step to join, I want to take this opportunity to improve myself and break free of the chains that have locked me in my past fears.
I thought to myself, “If I allow these fears to stop me from moving into more victories in life, will I regret when I look back 20 years later? If my children ask me about my past experience, am I able to share proudly and tell them what Mummy has done or I will be hiding and feeling guilty about it? ”
No matter how hard things are, how much we hate doing something, how much we fear, do not allow these things to block you from a life that has no boundaries to how much you can grow and achieve. You can never know how much potential you have until you reveal all of them through trails of life. Only during the heaviest storm will we know how good the sailors are.
My English teacher gave me a card in 2005 when I was taking my O’ levels. Till today, it is still kept in my wallet. It writes:
Don’t quit when the tide is lowest, for its just about to turn.
Don’t quite over doubts and questions, for there’s something you may learn.
Don’t quit when the night is darkest, for its just a while till dawn.
Don’t quit when you’ve run the farthest, for the race is almost won.
Don’t quit when the hill is steepest, for your goal is almost night.
Don’t quit, for you’re not a failure until you fail to try.
It encouraged me during my many hard times. I am sure it will do the same for you too.
We all have a different story and the ending of it depends solely on us. To quote Mary McCarthy, "We are the hero of our own story."
When you look back 10 years down the road from now, will you regret how you performed during NDP2008? Your story, you control. Ganbatte!
